Our 75th anniversary marked an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to our founder’s vision of creating lasting impact.

We began this milestone year by designing a visual symbol to represent our ambitions: an emblem generated by an algorithm that transforms letters into imagery. This seemingly simple design is, in fact, a mathematical representation of the word “future”; a word that guided our efforts throughout the year.

Our Ongoing Initiatives

We commemorated our 75th year by identifying causes dear to our founder
and launching projects chosen for the scale of their impact and their
potential to carry forward for generations to come.

Health Initiative

Our founder placed great importance on health initiatives, recognizing their profound impact on the quality of life for both patients and their families. He was especially passionate about ophthalmic causes, having lived in a time when preventable blindness was widespread due to untreated eye diseases.

Retinopathy Screening Devices

We contributed 12 Ret-Cam Digital cameras in support of the Ministry of Health’s Retinopathy of Prematurity National Program, administered by King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital. These screening devices have been distributed to all MoH centers Kingdom-wide and will help prevent over 400 newborns from going blind every year due to misdiagnosis.

Educational Initiatives

Our founder believed deeply in the power of education to change lives, not just for individuals, but for entire communities. To him, education was a pathway to independence, a source of empowerment, and a lasting investment in the future of generations to come.

The SSO Institute at KAUST

The groundbreaking for the Suliman S. Olayan Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship took place at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in 2022; the Institute continues fostering innovators and entrepreneurs driving the Kingdom’s transformative journey.

75 Scholarships

to mark our 75th anniversary, SSOF committed to funding the university education of 75 underprivileged students across KSA. This initiative reflects our belief that education is a powerful equalizer, opening doors, advancing equity, and creating opportunities for everyone.

Environmental Initiatives

In light of the planet’s current state, and in keeping with our founder’s vision to safeguard the well-being of our communities and help build a better future for generations to come, we believe it is our responsibility to support meaningful efforts that address the environmental crisis and restore balance to the natural world.

A Million Mangroves

Chosen for their many benefits, such as – high carbon sequestering capabilities and immense contribution to biodiversity – we pledged to plant 1M mangroves off the west coast of Saudi Arabia. These mangroves are estimated to offset 25k tons of CO2 per year.

Cultural Initiatives

With Saudi’s native honeybees recently recognized as an endangered species, we identified an urgent need to reconnect with our natural resources and support local communities. In response, we partnered with local artisans to help revive bee populations and preserve a rich cultural heritage for generations to come.

Empowering Local Artisans

A year-long program was designed for twelve local artisans, focusing on sustainable beeswax production and creative use of by-products. By fostering zero-waste practices, this initiative aimed to strengthen local businesses, diversify product offerings, and create lasting value for years to come.
